Yes it very much is ... a restaurant is a brick and mortar business that
has no legitimate reason not to serve one person food instead of another so long as they are open. Nobody is suggesting that gay couples cannot walk in and purchase a cake that's on display and available to anybody else. What they are suggesting is that cake makers should not be required to participate in a gay wedding (i.e. create a custom cake and deliver it to the wedding) if that's their wish. As a wedding vendor myself, I think that's pretty stupid ... but it's also a personal choice IMO.
Likewise, a restaurant has the right, IMO, not to host a specific event or group if they don't want to. If the Nazi Party of Virginia comes to me and says they want to do a private group spin class, I'm going to tell them to go fuck themselves.
